United Truck Drivers Association

The Association was established in 2021 to support its members who are, in the main, road freight service providers haulage and logistics industry. It is a facilitating body which influences the state of the industry, rates, upkeep of the road infrastructure, road safety, freight security, driver interests, cross-border transport, development funding for emerging operators, education, health, the fuel price, law enforcement, labour relations and many other issues related to logistics, haulage, road freight transport.

Advocating for You

UTDA will fight for the rights of truckers and professional drivers in South Africa and the Region.  With a full-time office in our South Africa, we meet with lawmakers, regulators, and industry stakeholders on a daily basis to promote ideas that make sense and fight back against those that don’t.  As an UTDA  member, we will keep you updated on current issues, give you an opportunity to get more involved, and hopefully make trucking & professional truck driving a safer working environment and more profitable profession.

Grassroots Engagement

Involving of our members is key to our success in South Africa. Lawmakers need to hear directly from you about your challenges as a small-business trucker and professional driver. Our grassroots platform, gives you the tools to participate in the legislative and regulatory process.

UTDA – Strength in Numbers

In conjunction with our lobbying and Call-to-Action grassroots efforts, the UTDA raises the visibility of truck drivers’ & truckers’ views, interests and concerns among influential lawmakers. With increased visibility, UTDA has a greater opportunity to educate lawmakers on issues important to truckers, truck drivers and a greater opportunity to impact what happens in South Africa. Monitoring Government Legislation

UTDA’s Government Affairs staff in South Africa is dedicated to educating lawmakers and policymakers on all issues that affect our members and the trucking industry. UTDA has commented on virtually every significant rule-making that affects professional truckers. As part of our grassroots efforts, Call-to-Action alerts on hot issues are sent to our members, encouraging them to communicate their concerns directly to agencies and their elected officials.

Drivers’ Rights – Advocay

You didn’t give up your rights when you received your professional truck driver’s license. UTDA  association represents truck drivers and small business truckers. We strive for a business climate where truckers & truck drivers are treated equally and fairly while promoting highway safety. Our efforts are focused on three major fronts: legislative, regulatory and, when necessary, in the courts.

Communication and Driver Education

UTDA communicates and educates  lawmakers on the issues that challenge our members’ businesses and ability to earn a living. We stay on top of legislation on a daily basis. But your lawmakers need to regularly hear from YOU directly. The regulatory process needs your voice. Make your concerns heard loud and clear by your representatives. Take the opportunity to participate in the legislative and regulatory process. UTDA will give you the tools to do so.

Our Priorities

Among the many issues affecting the trucking industry, UTDA is pursuing these as priorities on behalf of our members: Mandatory speed limiters, Mandatory Vaccination, Hours of Service regulations, driver training requirements, tolling, privatization of infrastructure, parking shortage, detention time, sleep apnea, CSA, infrastructure spending, truck size and weight, cross-border trucking, CARB and environmental regulations, and insurance minimums.
